At NCP Printing, we follow the mantra: reduce, reuse, recycle. All business areas are continually reviewed to ensure we’re making the most of opportunities to minimise our footprint. When NCP printing relocated to Mayfield West, constructing a new facility allowed us to invest in better, greener options:
Building material was determined based on acoustic and thermal qualities.
Insulation, cross-ventilation, and a sophisticated air extraction system (utilising temperature-controlled energy-efficient automation) help maintain a constant temperature within our factory area without air conditioning and its associated high energy use.
Induction lighting, new compressors, and better digital technology assist with minimising our carbon generation.
We not only talk about the importance of environmental initiatives. We practice them.
In conjunction with the Bright Print Group’s accreditation to ISO14001:2015 Environmental Management, the Group holds the FSC Chain of Custody.
In 2009 we achieved FSC accreditation. Although we’ve always preferred FSC-certified stock, this allowed us to offer the use of the FSC logo to our clients. The logo sends a powerful message to consumers because an FSC-certified printed product is a tangible way to show your clients a commitment to sustainable purchasing.
Our team can guide you through the approval process and recommend FSC-certified stock for your project.
In 2011, we became Silver Partners after a rigorous 18-month programme conducted by the then Department of Environment & Climate Change. This programme developed an action plan to identify and implement other sustainable practices throughout the business. The areas targeted in this valuable programme laid the foundations for our current policies and philosophy around:
Resource efficiency
Environmental risk and responsibility
Supply chain management
Staff engagement
What are some of the things we do to make print a viable environmental option?
All inks used on our offset presses are soy based. Easy to grow soybeans need no irrigation, require limited fixed nutrients, and leave minimal crop residue. Soy ink can be removed easily in the de-inking process, helping in paper recycling, and it needs less pigment because of its clearer base.
We encourage our clients to consider FSC-certified papers where possible. We recycle all necessary paper waste generated when producing a job (i.e. trims, make-ready etc.) and minimise this waste through effective planning practices.
Most chemicals we use are water miscible, and all are low volatility. A licenced waste contractor collects the few chemicals we use, such as oil, for machinery maintenance.
Planet Ark collects printer and toner cartridges regularly. Staff are also encouraged to bring their cartridges from home to recycle.
As two essential items of consumption, we strive to reduce the use of both these resources. We installed a water re-circulation unit on our CTP processor, which saved a fantastic 92%, and the materials used to build our NCP Printing facility insulated against extremes in temperature, saving on excessive electricity use.
We separate all board and paper waste in our factories to be collected by licensed contractors. Our staff also use co-mingle bins so kitchen waste can be sorted into food scraps and recyclable material.
